Vol. 537 No. 5

Written Answers. - Hearing Implants.

Dinny McGinley

337 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will make funding available to provide children and adults with upgraded hearing implants. [16847/01]

The national cochlear implantation programme was established in Beaumont Hospital in 1995 and in January of this year the programme achieved its 100th transplant, 62 children and 38 adults. Funding for the programme, which enables deaf people to hear, is routed through Beaumont Hospital's annual allocation under an arrangement with the Eastern Regional Health Authority.
