Ceist:

429 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs the cost of deposits paid for the acquisition of rented accommodation by persons in receipt of rent subsidy in the South-Western Area Health Board for each of the past five years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16805/01]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 428 and 429 together.

As the Deputy may be aware, the South Western Area Health Board came into existence only in March 2000 having previously formed part of the Eastern Health Board. For this reason I am in a position to supply only details of the expenditure on rent supplement in the SWAHB from March 2000 on, as shown in the following tabular statement.

The expenditure for the years 1996 to 1999, inclusive, is in respect of the former EHB. A total figure for the full year 2000 is shown in respect of the same region which is now served by the SWAHB and two other area health boards operating under the Eastern Regional Health Authority.

Details on expenditure relating to deposits for rent are not available prior to 2000 as the administration of SWA in the then EHB area was not fully computerised until mid-1999.

Expenditure on rent deposits in the Eastern Regional Health Authority – formerly EHB – area in 2000 was £1,210,746, of which £359,998 was in respect of the South-Western Area Health Board.

Expenditure on rent supplements in the Eastern Regional Health Authority, ERHA, area – formerly the EHB:
