Vol. 537 No. 5

Written Answers. - Sports Capital Programme.

Phil Hogan

Ceist:

510 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation when he expects to make decisions in respect of capital grant assistance to sports organisations; when he made the decision to sanction finance to James Stephens GAA Club, County Kilkenny; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16834/01]

The sports capital programme for 2001 was advertised in mid-December 2000 with a closing date of 9 February 2001 for the receipt of completed applications. In excess of 1,450 applications were received, including one from the organisation in question. All applications were evaluated against the programme's assessment criteria, which were outlined in the guidelines which accompanied the application form. I am pleased to inform the Deputy that, following this assessment process, on 7 June, I allocated a grant of £125,000 to the club in question in respect of its application under the programme.
