Vol. 537 No. 5

Written Answers. - Tourism Promotion.

Denis Naughten

Ceist:

514 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he will give a breakdown of the additional £17 million spent on marketing due to the foot and mouth crisis; the funds allocated to each market; the breakdown of the way in which this funding was spent; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17195/01]

This year Bord Fáilte received an additional allocation of £10 million for tourism product marketing and promotional purposes in the budget for the 2001 season and subsequently was allocated by Government a further £7 million specifically towards a special reassurance campaign to deal with the impact of the foot and mouth disease crisis.

The expenditure of these moneys, including the £10 million reassurance campaign, is being rolled out by Bord Fáilte in our main source markets, including Britain, continental Europe and North America. The level of funding for each market is an operational matter for Bord Fáilte.
