Vol. 538 No. 1

Written Answers. - Industrial Development.

Austin Deasy

Ceist:

91 Mr. Deasy asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if she will impress on the IDA the need to make its landbank available to industrialists and perspective employers in areas such as west Waterford. [17252/01]

The management of the industrial property portfolio of IDA Ireland is a statutory function of the agency as laid out in section 16 of the Industrial Development Act, 1986 and, accordingly, the provision of industrial development land is a day to day matter for IDA Ireland and not one in which I have a direct function.

However, I am assured by IDA Ireland that industrial property is being provided in order to assist industrial development in west Waterford. In this regard, at present IDA Ireland own approximately 41 acres of land in west Waterford comprising two sites of 36 acres and five acres in Dungarvan and Cappoquin respectively.

The Dungarvan site was acquired last year and is at this point unserviced. IDA Ireland intends to develop the site as a quality business park. Until the site is developed it can only be marketed as a single unit. Post development, the site will be available for projects compatible with a quality business environment and which meet the approval criteria of IDA Ireland and Enterprise Ireland.

In Cappoquin approximately five serviced acres remain in IDA ownership. Again this site is available for projects which are approved by IDA and-or Enterprise Ireland.
