Vol. 538 No. 1

Written Answers. - Maternity Services.

Ceist:

153 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Health and Children the guidelines which are in place regarding the length of time mothers and new-born children should stay in a maternity hospital following the birth of the child; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17340/01]

There are no national guidelines regarding the length of stay for mothers and babies in maternity hospitals following childbirth. The average length of stay in maternity hospitals is three days for a normal delivery and five to six days following a caesarean section.
