Vol. 538 No. 5

Written Answers. - Defence Forces Property.

Seán Power

Ceist:

101 Mr. Power asked the Minister for Defence when the new swimming pool at the Curragh will be open; if it is intended to make the facility available to Curragh residents and local schools; the staffing arrangements which have been made for the proper and efficient running of the swimming pool; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18349/01]

A contract was placed by my Department in June 2000 for the construction of a new 25 metre swimming pool at the Defence Forces Training Centre, Curragh Camp, County Kildare, and the refurbishment of the existing gymnasium to which the pool would be linked. The duration of the project was 52 calendar weeks. Work has progressed well and it is anticipated that the swimming pool and gymnasium will be handed over by the contractor by the middle of July this year.

The swimming pool facility will continue to be made available to families of Defence Forces personnel and to schools in the Curragh area.

Arrangements will be made to have the complex adequately staffed.
