Vol. 538 No. 5

Written Answers. - General Medical Services Scheme.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

118 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will review his response to Parliamentary Question No. 290 of 12 June 2001 regarding allowances payable for domiciliary calls. [18382/01]

Currently under the GMS scheme a contracted doctor is remunerated by way of the applicable age and sex capitation fee in respect of a patient on his or her list in a home for the aged and may also claim an out of hours fee for emergency services provided out of hours to such patients.

I have, at this particular time, no plans to introduce under the GMS scheme a special allowance to be paid to general practitioners in respect of medical card patients in nursing homes. However, I should add that the matter of medical card patients in nursing homes has been raised by the Irish Medical Organisation with my Department and it is being examined.
