Vol. 540 No. 2

Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

Billy Timmins

Ceist:

129 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Finance if he received an application from Wicklow County Council seeking funding for flood relief; if so, the content of the application; if it makes reference to Arklow, Baltinglass, Aughrim, Avoca, Shillelagh and other towns in County Wicklow; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20265/01]

As the Deputy is aware, I recently met a deputation from Wicklow to discuss the flooding problems in the county. Funding has been agreed with Arklow Urban District Council to commission consulting engineers to prepare a report on all options for ameliorating the flood regime in Arklow town. On receipt of this report from the council further consideration will be given by the Office of Public Works as to the best method for addressing this problem.

The Commissioners of Public Works are awaiting a further report from Wicklow County Council relating to flooding at other locations in the county. On receipt of the relevant information, my officials will liaise with the council in order to determine what flood measures might be considered for the areas identified.
