144 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Health and Children if consideration will be given to financial assistance towards the cost of medical expenses incurred by persons (details supplied) in South Africa; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20292/01]
Neither I nor my Department has a function in providing financial assistance directly to individuals towards the cost of medical treatment. Such matters are proper to the chief executive officer of the relevant health board. I have asked the regional chief executive officer of the Eastern Regional Health Authority to consider this case and to reply directly to the Deputy.
