Vol. 540 No. 3

Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

115 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Finance if funding is available to dredge the city stretch of the Tolka River at Botanic Avenue, Dublin 9; and if funding is available to take other remedial action to assist in the prevention of further flooding at this location. [20518/01]

Dublin Corporation has approval from the Department of the Environment and Local Government to appoint consultants to carry out a strategic drainage study of the Dublin region. Following discussions with the Commissioners of Public Works, Dublin Corporation, who will be the lead agents with constant input from Fingal and Meath County Councils and Office of Public Works, has agreed to extend the consultant's remit in order to provide for a detailed flood study of the Tolka River catchment which will also outline options for flood alleviation.

The Commissioners of Public Works are currently awaiting, from the corporation, a cost estimate and programme for this study and any proposals and costs will require examination by my officials. In the meantime, no works can be undertaken until this study has been completed. Funding for the flood study report will be provided from the Vote of the Office of Public Works.
