Vol. 540 No. 3

Written Answers. - Health Service Statistics.

David Stanton

Ceist:

173 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will ensure that a person (details supplied) in County Cork has a hip operation as soon as possible; the number of people currently awaiting hip operations in the Southern Health Board region; the average number of such operations carried out in the region each month; the number of surgeons carrying out hip operations in the Southern Health Board region; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20705/01]

The total number on the in-patient waiting list for hip replacements at hospitals in the Southern Health Board region as at 31 March 2001, the latest date for which figures are available, is 96.

The provision of hospital services is the statutory responsibility of the Southern Health Board in the first instance and I have, therefore, asked the chief executive officer of the board to look into the other matters raised by the Deputy and reply directly to him in this regard.
