Vol. 540 No. 3

Written Answers. - Criminal Compensation.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

305 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he plans to introduce compensation for loss of property or damage due to criminal activity; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20718/01]

I can inform the Deputy that a scheme of compensation for personal injuries criminally inflicted is operated under the aegis of my Department by the Criminal Injuries Compensation Tribunal. While a review of this scheme is being undertaken by my Department at present there are no plans to introduce compensation for loss or damage to property as part of the review.
