Vol. 540 No. 3

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

John Perry

Ceist:

96 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if he will rescind the decision made by his Department on an application by a person (details supplied) in County Sligo for a slatted house grant; if he will waive the criteria in view of his circumstances; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20556/01]

There is no record of an application under any of the on-farm investment schemes currently operated by my Department from the person named.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

97 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the position regarding payments of ewe and sheep subsidy to a person (details supplied) in County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20611/01]

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

98 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the position regarding payments of ewe and sheep subsidy to farmers in County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20612/01]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 97 and 98 together.

Given the unacceptable situation highlighted in the detailed assessment of ewe premium applications in the Cooley area of County Louth, my Department has had to put in place additional controls under the 2001 ewe premium scheme. These include documentary and other checks which may be conducted on-the-spot or by administrative means. In conducting these control checks I have asked my officials to pay particular attention to sheep slaughter data in meat plants and to details of movements under the permit arrangements introduced on 3 March last. This exercise is still ongoing. I expect, however, that payment of the first instalment of 2001 ewe premium can commence from the middle of July. Payment will not be made in those cases which are under query until such time as all outstanding queries have been resolved.

Dan Neville

Ceist:

99 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development when a REP scheme payment will be made to a person (details supplied) in County Limerick. [20614/01]

A cross compliance check raised important issues regarding the area declared on the agri-environmental plan for the person named. He submitted a revised plan on 22 November 2000 but it contained mapping errors. A second revised plan was submitted on 23 March 2001. An examination of this plan was undertaken but an on-farm inspection was necessary and this could not take place while the foot and mouth disease restrictions prevented REPS inspections. An on-farm inspection is now being arranged as a matter of urgency. Payment may be processed once my Department is satisfied that the areas declared in the agri-environmental plan are correct.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

100 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development when a REP scheme appeal for a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be finalised. [20685/01]

In accordance with the normal procedure, the appeal lodged by the person named against a penalty imposed on his REPS payment has been investigated by my Department and a report has been prepared on the matter. The appeal will be considered by the REPS appeals committee at its next meeting, which will be on 17 July. He will then be informed of the outcome directly in writing.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

101 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development when a decision on a REP scheme appeal for a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be available. [20686/01]

The issue in this case is the eligibility of certain lands for payment under REPS. The issue is complex and officials of my Department visited the person named recently to clarify it for him. An amended agri-environmental plan has since been received from his planner and is being examined at present. My Department will write directly to the person concerned as soon as a final decision has been taken.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

102 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the result of a farm inspection for a REP scheme appeal for a person (details supplied) in County Mayo; and when this person can expect a payment. [20687/01]

The inspection referred to was part of the REPS appeals procedure and the inspection report will be considered by the REPS appeals committee at its next meeting which will take place on 17 July. He will then be informed directly in writing of the outcome of his appeal.

The result of the appeal will determine what further payment is made to the person concerned.
