266 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Defence the extent to which his Department is prepared for the introduction of the euro; if he will ensure that the replies to future parliamentary questions show all monetary values in euros and pounds; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My Department is currently in the process of finalising its preparations for the changeover to the euro and the introduction of euro notes and coins on 1 January 2002. I am confident that my Department will be fully prepared for euro operations in advance of that date and that the transition to the euro will run smoothly.
I will ensure that replies to parliamentary questions for the remainder of 2001 and for an appropriate period in 2002 show relevant monetary values in both Irish pounds and euro.
