418 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will make a statement on reservations and concerns expressed by members of the steering committee on the cardio vascular strategy that the strategy will be introduced on a piecemeal basis and that it will not run on a national basis as health boards will proceed with individual projects. I presume the Deputy is referring to the steering group on secondary prevention for patients with cardiovascular disease in general practice in his question. This committee is a sub-group of the advisory forum on cardiovascular health, which advises the heart health task force and my Department on the prioritisation of various technical issues associated with the implementation of the cardiovascular strategy. The steering committee on primary care recently accepted a proposal on a national programme in general practice for the secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease. Discussions are ongoing at the moment with the key stakeholders on how best to progress the implementation of this programme on a national basis.
