Vol. 541 No. 2

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

451 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Health and Children when he will forward detailed information as requested in Parliamentary Question No. 228 of 26 June 2001. [21292/01]

The provision of services at Mallow General Hospital is the statutory responsibility of the Southern Health Board.

I understand that the executive management board, which the Southern Health Board established at the hospital, is presently addressing the issues raised.

I have asked the chief executive officer at the board to deal with the specific points raised by the Deputy and to reply to him as a matter of urgency.

Ceist:

452 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Health and Children when he will forward detailed information as requested in Parliamentary Question No. 191 of 5 July 2001. [21293/01]

According to information received from the Southern Health Board the situation as at 13 July 2001 was as follows:

In Cork University Hospital there were 19 patients who were medically discharged but were awaiting alternative placement. Of this number, four patients were awaiting admission to a community hospital. There were three patients in Tralee General Hospital who were inappropriately placed. These patients had been medically discharged and were awaiting placement in community hospitals or long-stay units. There were no patients in Bantry General Hospital that were inappropriately placed.

The waiting list for admission to community hospitals as at 11 June 2001 was 258. This number would have included patients who were resident in nursing homes who wished to transfer to community hospitals.

On the basis of cases at that time, the average cost of each enhanced subvention was £260 (euro equivalent: 330.13) per week per applicant.
