Vol. 541 No. 2

Written Answers. - Drugs Refund Scheme.

Seán Haughey

Ceist:

543 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Health and Children if medical expenses for persons over 70 years of age will be reimbursed with effect from 1 July 2001 under the drugs payment scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21987/01]

Consideration is being given by my Department to setting up an ad hoc scheme to refund drug costs incurred by persons who had an automatic entitlement to a medical card on 1 July but who had to pay for drugs either under the drug payment scheme or on a pay as you go basis where the costs in a month would not have exceeded £42.

As soon as the necessary approval for the scheme has been obtained administrative arrangements will be agreed with the health boards and notices will be placed in the national press.
