Vol. 541 No. 2

Written Answers. - Taxi Licences.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

658 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the regulations regarding the allocation of taxi licences; and the role of the Garda Síochána in adjudicating on those applications. [20949/01]

Under the Road Traffic (Public Service Vehicles) Regulations, 1963 to 2001, licensing authorities may grant taxi licences, wheelchair accessible taxi licences, hackney and limousine licences. Public service vehicles are licensed following presentation of a vehicle test certificate and certificate of suitability issued by the national car testing service, demonstration of appropriate insurance and payment of the appropriate fee.

The granting of licences in respect of small public service vehicles is solely a matter for individual licensing authorities. The granting of licences to drivers of small public service vehicles is a matter for the Garda Commissioner.
