Vol. 541 No. 2

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Jimmy Deenihan

Ceist:

673 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will grant approval for the regional water supply scheme, Stage I, Phase II, investigation, Smearla Dam Site, to enable Kerry County Council to proceed with a site investigation at the proposed impoundment at Behins, Listowel, County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21070/01]

This scheme was eleventh on the list of 35 water and sewerage schemes submitted by Kerry County Council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake fresh assessments of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments. The priority lists were taken into account in the framing of the Water Services Investment Programme 2000-2002, announced in July 2000. Given the priority afforded to the scheme by the council, the level of competing demand and the funding available, it has not been possible to include it in the programme.

Ceist:

674 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will sanction the Finuge sewerage scheme, County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21071/01]

This scheme was thirty third on the list of 35 water and sewerage schemes submitted by Kerry County Council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake fresh assessments of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments. The priority lists were taken into account in the framing of the Water Services Investment Programme 2000-2002, announced in July 2000. Given the priority afforded to the scheme by the council, the level of competing demand, and the funding available, it has not been possible to include it in the programme.

Ceist:

675 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will sanction the Cashen sewerage scheme, County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21072/01]

This scheme was not included in the list of water and sewerage schemes submitted by Kerry County Council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake fresh assessments of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments. The priority lists were taken into account in the framing of the Water Services Investment Programme 2000-2002, announced in July 2000. As the scheme was not included in the council's priority list, it has not been considered for approval under the programme.

John Bruton

Ceist:

676 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the plans, proposals and initiatives he will implement regarding the Ballivor sewerage scheme; when the works will commence; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21073/01]

The Ballivor sewerage scheme is included as a scheme to advance through planning in my Department's Water Services Investment Programme 2000-2002.

Meath County Council have submitted a preliminary report for stage 1 of the scheme to my Department for approval. This is currently under examination and will be dealt with as quickly as possible.
