128 Mr. McDowell asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when he will introduce an amendment to the legislation which requires the permission of the Minister to identify asylum seekers; if his attention has been drawn to the concerns expressed by the National Union of Journalists over the delay; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I refer the Deputy to my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 436 of 3 July 2001. As I previously indicated, it is my intention, subject to Government approval, to bring forward the necessary amendment to section 19(2) of the Refugee Act, 1996, in the framework of the Immigration (Carriers Liability) Bill at present in course of preparation and which I expect will be published shortly.
