Vol. 541 No. 2

Written Answers. - Housing Grants.

Deirdre Clune

Ceist:

696 Ms Clune asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the grants and supports which are available to improve the condition of a dwelling other than a local authority dwelling; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21550/01]

There are a number of options available to local authorities to assist older people and low income households secure necessary improvement works to their homes. These include the essential repairs and disabled persons grant schemes, local authority house improvement loans of up to £6,000 unsecured and £15,000 secured and the scheme of improvement works in lieu of local authority housing. Details of these schemes are available from the local authorities.

There is also the housing aid for the elderly scheme, operated by the health boards, which assist in carrying out works to the housing conditions of elderly persons living alone in unfit and unsanitary conditions. The community welfare officer at the health board will be able to advise regarding assistance under this scheme.
