Ceist:

713 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position regarding the amount of moneys allocated to the Ballylickey sewerage scheme in west Cork; and the expected commencement date. [21850/01]

This scheme has been approved for funding under the rural towns and villages initiative, at an estimated cost of £0.9 million (1.142 million). I approved the preliminary report for the scheme in September 2000 and my Department is awaiting the submission of contract documents by Cork County Council.

Denis Naughten

Ceist:

714 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government further to Parliamentary Question No. 402 of 1 May 2001, the progress made regarding the extension and upgrading of this sewerage scheme; when he will approve funding for the scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21872/01]

Stage 1 of the Castlerea sewerage scheme is included in my Department's Water Services Investment Programme 2000-2002, to commence construction in 2002, at an estimated cost of £3.3 million (4.19 million). The contract documents submitted to my Department by Roscommon County Council envisage a larger and more costly scheme than that approved at preliminary report stage. Additional information requested by the Department from the council in relation to the revised proposals is currently awaited.
