Vol. 541 No. 2

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Paul McGrath

Ceist:

742 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if an application for funding to augment the water scheme for Moate, County Westmeath, by way of a pipeline from Ballymore, has been submitted to his Department; if so, the date this application was received; if the application has received technical approval from his officials; the estimated cost of the scheme; the reason for the delay in giving this application approval; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22246/01]

A consultant's report on this proposal, estimated to cost £2 million (2.53 million), was submitted to my Department by Westmeath County Council in April 2001. It will be considered for approval in the context of the next phase of my Department's water services investment programme. The proposal was not included in the list of schemes submitted by the council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake a fresh assessment of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessment. These priority lists were taken into account in the framing of the water services investment programme 2000/02, announced in July 2000.
