Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Billy Timmins

Ceist:

754 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the situation regarding the Hacketstown water scheme, County Carlow; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22491/01]

I have approved Carlow County Council's tender recommendation for the supply network contract for this scheme and it is now a matter for the council to progress these works to construction. The council's tender recommendation for the water treatment element of the scheme is currently under examination in my Department.

755 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the situation regarding the Arklow sewerage scheme, County Wicklow; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22492/01]

The Arklow sewerage scheme is included in my Department's water services investment programme, 2000-2002, as a scheme to commence construction in 2001. The granting of planning permission for the proposed sewage treatment works is currently the subject of High Court proceedings and a third-party appeal to An Bord Pleanála. Further progress with the scheme is dependent on the outcome of these proceedings.

Ceist:

756 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the situation regarding the Blessington water scheme, County Wicklow; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22493/01]

The Blessington and west Wicklow water supply scheme, estimated to cost £10 million, 12.7 million, is included in my Department's water services investment programme as a scheme to advance through planning. I understand that consultants have been appointed by Wicklow County Council to prepare a preliminary report for submission to my Department for approval in due course.
