Vol. 541 No. 2

Written Answers. - Family Resource Centres.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

822 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if he remains committed to the Hill Street Family Resource Centre, Dublin 1; the implications for the future of the centre arising from the completion of the term of the integrated services process; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22179/01]

Hill Street Family Resource Centre has been supported by my Department. Hill Street Family Resource Centre currently receives £53,000 per annum under the terms of its contract with my Department. This support has facilitated the employment of a co-ordinator and a part-time outreach worker to assist in carrying out its work plan.

As this Department's family resource centre programme is not contingent on the integrated services process, the completion of the term of that process does not impact directly on the pro gramme. My Department's current contract with Hill Street Resource Centre terminates at end 2002 and will be reviewed at that time with a view to renewal. As the Deputy may be aware, the Government has decided to set up a new family support agency to co-ordinate family services and to bring greater focus to family policy issues. It will bring together the main programmes and pro-family services developed in recent years. It is intended that the family and community services resource centre programme will operate as part of the new agency. The new agency will seek to support, promote and develop the programme. This initiative is a key step in the Government's Families First approach which is designed to put families at the centre of all its policies.
