Ceist:829 Ms Cooper-Flynn asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the position regarding a pier (details supplied) in County Mayo in respect of which funding has been allocated. [20907/01]

My Department has identified Blacksod Pier as one of the strategic Gaeltacht piers, which it is hoped will be developed during the currency of the National Development Plan 2000-2006. I understand that Mayo County Council appointed consultants to undertake a feasibility study on this pier and that based on the report received, the council has recently requested the consultants to proceed with preparation of drawings for the purposes of:
1.Part X of the local Government (Planning and Development) Regulations 1994.
2.Foreshore Licensing.
Once these and other issues have been resolved, the question of the provision of funding for the development of the pier will be considered further.
