959 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the plans he has to address the problem of drug dealers who are in the course of moving their operations to the suburbs of Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22501/01]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the activities of known drug dealers, regardless of their location, are continuously monitored by local Garda divisional drug units based throughout the Dublin area with assistance from the Garda national drugs unit when necessary. Information regarding these activities is co-ordinated and acted upon.

960 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the extent to which he is monitoring the movement of those involved in drug dealing and trafficking, particularly the relocation of such activities to a more rural environment; the plans he has to address the problem of this new network; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22502/01]

I am informed by the Garda that the activities of known drug dealers involved in trafficking and distribution regardless of where they are located is continuously monitored within an established framework existing in Garda divisions countrywide. In addition the services of the Garda national drugs unit is fully utilised in such matters. The operations of the relevant Garda units are co-ordinated at both regional and national levels.
