Following the public advertising of the 2001 Sports Capital Programme, in excess of 1,450 applications were received. All of the applications were assessed in accordance with assessment criteria outlined in the guidelines, terms and conditions governing the programme. Following the assessment process, I announced the allocation of 696 grants totalling £43.5 million to projects all over the country.
Every applicant organisation, including those in County Louth, subsequently received correspondence from my Department in relation to the assessment of their application. Those organisations being allocated a grant were advised on requirements and procedures for the drawdown of their grants and each unsuccessful applicant was given a copy of its assessment sheet including scores and explanatory comments where appropriate under each of the criteria used in assessing the applications.
