Vol. 541 No. 2

Written Answers. - Sports Funding.

Jimmy Deenihan

Ceist:

981 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he has made a decision regarding the allocation of funds to enable the World Road Cycling Championships proceed in Killarney in 2004; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22347/01]

I understand that, following consideration of a recommendation by the international sports tourism advisory group and in the light of the anticipated tourism benefits in terms of visitor spend and international publicity, the board of Bord Fáilte, at a meeting held on 20 September, agreed to allocate £1 million in financial support under the Government's international sports tourism initiative, towards the costs of holding the World Road Cycling Championships in Killarney in 2004.
