1012 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 411 of 26 June 2001 on behalf of a person (details supplied), it is possible for this person to hold a permanent position under this programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The creation of a permanent teaching post under a vocational education committee is a matter for the committee concerned having regard to the overall needs of its scheme and to staff allocation limits and requirements approved by my Department. All appointments by vocational education committees to permanent teaching positions must be made in accordance with agreed selection procedures. The approved teacher allocation to County Sligo VEC for the 2001-02 school year includes a provision of 6.2 wholetime teacher equivalent posts in respect of the Sligo-Leitrim arts education programme. My Department is currently reviewing the general position with regard to the arts education programme. The continuing need for the allocation of these posts will be considered in the light of the review.
