Vol. 541 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Brendan Howlin

Ceist:

1117 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will provide funding to replace a bus for Our Lady of Fatima special school, Carrigeen Street, Wexford (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21949/01]

The issue raised by the Deputy has not previously been brought to my attention. Under present arrangements, my Department provides a school transport service for pupils with special needs attending special schools and special classes in primary schools. Bus Éireann operate the school transport service on behalf of my Department. I understand that there are nine transport routes serving the school referred to by the Deputy under the special school transport scheme and that these services are currently operating satisfactorily. My Department has no involvement in providing transport for out-of-school activities.
