Vol. 541 No. 2

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Ruairí Quinn

Ceist:

1151 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Education and Science the steps which are being taken to provide suitable integrated education for a child (details supplied) in Dublin 14 who suffers from autism and severe learning difficulties and who has not been accepted by the services who deal with learning disabilities due to his autism or by the services for autism, due to his learning disabilities; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22346/01]

The pupil referred to by the Deputy has just recently been brought to the attention of my Department's officials. My Department's inspectorate is currently investigating the provision of an appropriate education placement for him. As soon as the inspectorate has reported, my officials will be in contact with the family of the pupil concerned. As an interim solution, my Department has made a provision of home-tuition hours, contingent on the child's successful school placement.
