Vol. 542 No. 6

Written Answers. - Departmental Spending.

Gerry Reynolds

Ceist:

184 Mr. G. Reynolds asked the Minister for Health and Children the money allocated and spent to date in 2001 by his Department in each county excluding the BMW region under the national development plan. [25399/01]

Funding has been indicated by my Department under the National Development Plan 2000-2006, to each of the health boards. This takes account of the regional requirements reflected in the overall plan in relation to the S&E and BMW regions. As the health services are primarily administered on the health board structure, the allocation and expenditure of NDP funding to individual counties is a matter for each board.

In strategically managing the NDP, my Department approves with each board major or medium projects on an individual basis. Smaller projects or other capital expenditure relating, for example, to equipment, refurbishment or health and safety works are normally agreed with boards on a more global funding approach within individual healthcare programmes. My Department does not routinely collate funding or expenditure details by county.

In the circumstances, I have referred the Deputy's query to the chief executive officers of the health boards within the S&E region and have asked them to supply the information requested direct to the Deputy.
