Vol. 543 No. 2

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Jim Higgins

Ceist:

260 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the reason he refused to accept the date of birth of a calf from a person (details supplied) in County Cork. [26344/01]

The position is that the person identified made an application to the local DVO in September 2001 to change the date of birth of the animal in question. The application is under query because the new birth date is some ten months later than the original date of birth registered by the herdowner. In addition, the supporting documentation indicates that the identity of the dam may be different from that which was declared when the animal was first registered. In the circumstances, I have arranged for an official from the local office to call on the herdowner.

Ceist:

261 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the reason for the delay in processing headage payments for a person (details supplied) in County Mayo. [26401/01]

The animal-based headage schemes were replaced in 2001 by the area-based compensatory allowance scheme.

The person named was paid £856.78 under the 2001 area-based compensatory allowance scheme on 25 September 2001 in respect of 12.24 hectares of more severely handicapped land at £70 per hectare. This compares with his average payment of £439.53 in the three years 1998, 1999 and 2000.
