346 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of patients waiting for routine orthopaedic surgery at the South Infirmary Hospital in Cork; the longest and average waiting time for this surgery; the steps he is taking to improve the situation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. David Stanton

Ceist:

347 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Health and Children the length of time a person (details supplied) in County Cork will have to wait to receive orthopaedic surgery at the South Infirmary Hospital in Cork; if he will put resources in place to ensure the earliest possible date for the operation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26045/01]

I propose to answer Questions Nos. 346 and 347 together.

I have had inquiries made with the chief executive officer at the South Infirmary Victoria Hospital regarding the case to which the Deputy is referring and have been advised that the hospital does not perform orthopaedic surgery on site. If the Deputy provides clarification regarding the case to which he is referring, I will be happy to make further inquiries on his behalf.

Question No. 348 answered with Question No. 333.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

349 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children when bypass surgery will be received by a person (details supplied) in County Mayo. [26047/01]

The provision of medical services in this instance is the responsibility of the Western Health Board. My Department has asked the chief executive officer of the board to investigate the position in relation to this case and reply to the Deputy directly.
