Vol. 543 No. 2

Written Answers. - National Development Plan.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

430 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children the amount of money which has been allocated and spent to date by his Department in each county under the national development plan. [26540/01]

Health boards have primary responsibility for the implementation of the health services element of the National Development Plan 2000-2006 within their own areas, including the prioritisation and delivery of capital projects approved by my Department. These capital initiatives are administered on the basis of the existing health board structure for the country.

Given the scope of individual projects proposed under each health board's plan, and the evolving nature of capital projects generally in relation to the progress of funding issues involved, it would not be possible for me to provide the detailed information on a county basis sought by the Deputy. This would particularly be the case in regard to relatively smaller expenditure items such as equipping or refurbishment works. In the circumstances, I have referred the Deputy's query to the chief executive officer of each health board and have asked them to reply direct to the Deputy in the matter.
