Vol. 543 No. 2

Written Answers. - Departmental Staff.

John Perry

Ceist:

585 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if he will grant a person (details supplied) in Dublin 2 an immediate transfer to Sligo; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25986/01]

Selection for clerical officer posts in the Department's provincial offices, including Sligo, which fall to be filled by transfer of serving civil servants is made by reference to the order of the Department's transfer list for the location concerned. The procedures which govern the filling of clerical officer posts in provincial locations have been formally agreed between the Civil Service trade union which represents clerical officers and the Department of Finance.

The staff member in question was appointed following open Civil Service competition and the offer of appointment in Dublin which was made to her specified that she would not be considered for transfer to any other location for a minimum period of one year, which is in line with the central agreement on transfers. The person concerned recently took up her appointment in Dublin on that basis. While the person concerned has made application for transfer to Sligo, there are a significant number of serving clerical officers ahead of her on the transfer list and these would have to be considered before her for those clerical officer vacancies in the Department's offices in Sligo which will fall to be filled by transfer.
