Vol. 543 No. 2

Written Answers. - Advertising Campaigns.

Paul Bradford

Ceist:

725 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the public relations or advertising campaigns which have been funded or part funded by his Department since June 1997, involving the personal appearance of the Minister or Ministers of State on television, radio or in newspapers; the cost of any such campaigns; if any such campaigns are planned for the future; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26812/01]

As Minister with responsibility for the annual sports capital programme my title has been used in the public advertisements announcing the annual rounds of funding for the programme, which is the only funding programme operated directly by my Department, and both my name and title were used in the advertisement placed in 1998 announcing a review of that pro gramme. The cost of advertisements in respect of the sports capital programme since I took office amounted to approximately £41,000, including the cost of advertisements for the 2001 round of funding. I allowed the use of my name and title by Bord Fáilte in press advertising as part of the board's foot and mouth reassurance campaign in Britain earlier this year.

The name and title of the Minister of State at my Department with responsibility for the national drugs strategy, Deputy Eoin Ryan, have been used in the public advertisements requesting submissions and in relation to the consultative forums in the context of the review of the national drugs strategy in 2000 and in advertisements announcing the information sessions on the new strategy in 2001. The cost of these advertisements has to date amounted to £18,329.

The 2002 round of the sports capital programme will be advertised shortly and as heretofore my title will be used in the public advertisements for the programme.
