738 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will make arrangements to include necessary mechanical and engineering works among the works sanctioned to proceed to tender in 2001 for a school (details supplied) in Dublin 5. [25908/01]
My Department has received an application for grant aid towards the cost of a major refurbishment project at the school in question. The Deputy will appreciate that there has been a massive and unprecedented increase in the funds allocated by the Government to the schools building programme at all levels. My Department has approved grant aid to carry out improvement works including the replacement of windows and doors, repairs to ceilings and the erection of security fencing amounting to approximately £365,000. Decisions relating to the rate of progress of the remainder of the project, including the mechanical and electrical works, will be taken in the light of the allocations to be made for school building purposes in the forthcoming Estimates.
