Ceist:

110 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the direction which has been given by his Department to local authorities regarding the installation of water meters in premises used for commercial purposes; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26651/01]

Minister of State at the Department of the Environment and Local Government (Mr. Molloy):

In accordance with Government policy, and having regard to EU obligations, local authorities are required to complete the metering of all non-domestic users of water services by 2006. Advice to this effect was given to local authorities in a circular letter issued by my Department in March 2000.
