Vol. 543 No. 3

Written Answers. - Site Development.

Enda Kenny

Ceist:

168 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the action which has been taken by her Department and Údarás na Gaeltachta since the closure of the sawmills formerly owned by Coillte at Cong, County Mayo, in October 1999; the position regarding the transfer of the property to the ownership of Údarás na Gaeltachta; when she expects that this will be completed; her views on the proposals for future development of the site and location in respect of which a planning application has been lodged with Galway County Council; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [27035/01]

Enda Kenny

Ceist:

169 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if she will confirm that the machinery and equipment formerly in use at the Coillte owned sawmills at Cong, County Mayo, has been disposed of by public tender; her views on whether this was contrary to commitments given publicly at the time of the closure that this would not happen; and if she will make a statement in respect of the future development of the site at Cong, County Mayo. [27036/01]

I propose to take Question Nos. 168 and 169 together.

I refer the Deputy to my reply to his Question No. 631 of 6 November 2001, which outlines the present position in relation to the proposed purchase and development of the site in question by Údarás na Gaeltachta. As regards the machinery at the sawmill at Cong this, I understand from an tÚdarás, was wholly owned by Coillte Teo and so its disposal and any commitments that may have been given in relation to such machinery is a matter for that organisation.
