Vol. 543 No. 5

Written Answers. - Railway Building Project.

John V. Farrelly

Ceist:

206 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if funds have been allocated through the national development plan for the building of the railway from Navan to Dublin; if so, the costs involved in this work; the measures which have been taken to date regarding the preparation for the commencement of the work; when she envisages the line will be completed; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [27805/01]

The Dublin Transportation Office strategy 2000-2016, A Platform for Change, which is due to be published shortly in its final form, will recommend the provision of a rail spur from the Maynooth line to Navan (via Clonsilla and Dunboyne) by 2010. The strategy is currently under consideration by Iarnród Eireann, from whom I have not yet received proposals in that regard. It would therefore be premature to make projections on costings at this stage. In the meantime, Iarnród Éireann informs me that the company has been co-operating with Meath County Council to ensure that the projected alignment is preserved free from development.
