Paul Bradford

Ceist:

213 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if an application by a person (details supplied) in County Cork for a suckler cow quota will be considered; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27491/01]

The person named applied for an allocation of suckler cow quota from the 2002 national reserve under category A. This category was reserved for farmers, under 35 years of age, who intend to apply for the suckler cow premium scheme for the first time in 2002.

One of the conditions attached to this category was that the off-farm income of the applicant, including any off-farm income of his spouse or partner, should not exceed £10,000. The person named declared that he had an off-farm income of £19,260 and that his spouse or partner had an off-farm income of £9,097, making a total off-farm income of £28,357. As this amount exceeds the upper limit of £10,000, the person named does not qualify for an allocation of quota under that category.

As the off-farm income criteria apply to all categories, he would not qualify under any of the remaining three priority categories either.
