252 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Finance the plans the Office of Public Works has in respect of its premises at Jamestown Road, Inchicore; if the Office of Public Works will retain and, if necessary, develop its operations there; his views on whether this would make more sense economically and from an efficiency point of view; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27456/01]

The Office of Public Works does not intend to retain its present operations in its premises in Jamestown Road, Inchicore in the long-term. The property is not suitable in its present configuration to house the existing operations of the central engineering workshops and other Office of Public Works operations. Redevelopment of the property for this purpose would not be economical.

There have been a number of expressions of interest in the property from public sector bodies but no decision has yet been made in relation to the development of the property for other public use. A timetable for the redevelopment of the property has not yet been decided. This will be determined in the light of ongoing operational requirements and the progress of consultations with staff affected by the intended transfer of the existing operations.
