Vol. 543 No. 5

Written Answers. - Hospital Doctors.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

276 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children if he proposes to give specific directions to the Health Services Employment Agency to implement fully the terms of the non-consultant hospital doctors agreement of 2000 in relation to the calculation of overtime pay; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27427/01]

The Irish Medical Organisation continues to query the interpretation of that part of the NCHD 2000 Agreement which deals with overtime. As I have previously stated, both I and my officials have attempted, on several occasions, to resolve this matter with the IMO. Throughout this period I have requested that the matter be referred to the Labour Relations Commission for its considered view. Both the HSEA and the Department of Health and Children agree to accept the outcome of such clarification by the LRC. I am anxious to have this issue resolved at an early date. I wish to highlight again the fact that £90 million in additional funding has been allocated to NCHDs in the current year. There has been and will continue to be very significant investment in the terms and conditions applicable to NCHDs.
