Vol. 543 No. 5

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

399 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if an application by a person (details supplied) in County Mayo for a free fuel allowance payment has been approved. [27700/01]

An application for fuel allowance from the person concerned was refused on the grounds that the household income in his case exceeds the £40, 50.79, limit on additional income which a pensioner may have and still qualify under the scheme. He was advised accordingly in September last.

If he has special heating needs and is unable to provide for those needs, he may apply for a special needs payment under the supplementary welfare allowance scheme. An application for this supplement may be made through his local community welfare officer.
