Vol. 543 No. 5

Written Answers. - Voluntary Organisations.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

402 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs the position regarding an application by Glenhest Community Council for grant aid; and if funding has been sanctioned. [27711/01]

Under the scheme of grants to voluntary organisations, grants may be made for renovation or acquisition of premises, purchase of equipment or transport, once-off publications or research or other special projects.

When assessing grant applications under the scheme of grants to voluntary organisations, my Department must take account of the overall level of applications received, the overall resources available to meet applications, and the degree to which individual applications meet the criteria laid down for funding under the scheme.

The community council in question applied to my Department for funding, to assist with the cost of replacing the existing floor in the community centre. Their application was assessed but it was not possible to provide funding for the project on this occasion.
