Vol. 543 No. 5

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Róisín Shortall

Ceist:

440 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his attention has been drawn to the concerns of residents in the Santry, Dublin 9 area regarding the fact that responsibility for policing their area is shared between two Garda stations (details supplied); if he will request the Garda Commissioner to arrange for the entire Santry area between the Swords Road and Ballymun Road to be serviced by Santry Garda Station; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27598/01]

I am informed by the Garda authorities, who are responsible for the detailed allocation of personnel and resources to individual areas, that it is proposed to build a new Garda station in the area, on a site in Ballymun, which will become the new headquarters for the DMA north division. In order to facilitate this, I recently approved the merger of Ballymun and Santry stations. I am further informed by the Garda authorities that the area currently policed by each of the existing stations will be amalgamated and policed by the new station.
