Vol. 544 No. 2

Written Answers. - Harbours and Piers.

Brian O'Shea

Ceist:

71 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the proposals he has for the dredging of Dungarvan harbour; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28369/01]

A feasibility study prepared in 1999 on behalf of Dungarvan UDC by consulting engineers recommends extensive dredging of the harbour to facilitate a marina and other leisure activities. The feasibility study has been submitted to my Department.

The marine tourism grant scheme is one of five sub-measures of the overall tourism measure of the national development plan and is currently being prepared by my Department in consultation with the Department of Tourism, Sport and Recreation which has responsibility for the implementation of the overall measure. Until the scheme is launched and formal application forms and guidelines are available, applications cannot be accepted. Once the grant scheme is in place and a formal application received from the promoters of these projects, they will be assessed in accordance with the procedures laid down under the scheme.

Question No. 72 answered with Question No. 70.
